The Hindu Temple of Greater Dayton is conducting a Yoga Camp on June 5-6,
2021 to promote the true meaning and understanding of the word YOGA.
Yoga is the Sanskrit word derived from the root word Yuj meaning union. Yoga is a
spiritual discipline & practice which helps one unite with the supreme
consciousness. The ultimate goal of spirituality in Hindu Vedic tradition is to
become aware of divine presence everywhere, at all times – in oneself, in every
other human being and in the whole of creation. Yoga is a code of living our life

Yoga has been practiced by Hindus for thousands of years as is noted in ancient
Hindu scriptures. It was later adapted as a practice in many other religions arising
from India including Buddhism and Jainism. In the last few decades, Yoga has
become very popular in the west and we see Yoga studios all around us.
For most westerners, Yoga generally means HATH YOGA which involves physical
postures and breathing techniques. However, the ancient Hindu Yoga practice in
India included much more than that. Yoga has a number of levels and dimensions:
Asanas (physical postures), Pranayama (breathing techniques), and Meditation
help to clear the mind of impurities and move towards self-realization of one’s
true divine nature.
Yoga practices don’t necessarily have a religious connotation and thus open to
practice by all human beings irrespective of their faith/religion. Recognizing the
UNIVERSAL appeal of Yoga, on December 11, 2014, the United Nations
proclaimed June 21 st as International Yoga Day with an aim to raise awareness
worldwide of many benefits of practicing Yoga.
Benefits of Yoga can start at the physical level with improved health, flexibility,
mobility, and resilience. Yoga can support and boost the immune system. Benefits
extend to the mind as Yoga helps with relaxation, stress management, and
reducing anxiety and depression. Thus, Yoga practices are being used to prevent
or control many physical and mental illnesses. From a spiritual standpoint, Yoga is
a practice and philosophy that originated to unify body, mind, and spirit and to
create peace and harmony within & around us and achieve a state of true
happiness/bliss.
Yoga Camp will include talks by a Yoga Masters, & Swamis about Spiritual
connections of Yoga. Also talks by physicians regarding the Physical, Mental and
Emotional & other Health benefits of yoga. There will be sessions by
Yoga/Meditation Teachers who will be demonstrating varied Asanas & Breathing
Techniques and some sessions of guided Meditation by trained & Experienced
experts. Each session will be followed by ample time for Q & A.
Please join and experience True understanding of Yoga.
