Are Hindus idol worshipers?

Hindus do not worship a stone or metal “idol” as God. We invoke the presence of God and worship God through the image. The image or icon of worship is a focus for our prayers and devotions.
Just like we do not talk to the telephone rather we use it as a means of communication with another person. Similarly, an image or icon provides a means to focus and ability to enhance devotee’s worship. The human mind uses forms and symbols to awaken reverence, evoke sanctity and spiritual wisdom.
